Kangpokpi: Selsi village heads sent to jail

Two Selsi village heads were arrested for cultivating poppy at a hillside of Selsi village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district.

Selsi village heads who had been arrested for cultivating poppy at a hillside of Selsi village at Kangpokpi assembly constituency in Kangpokpi district were sent to Sajiwa Central Jail on Thursday.

The arrested village heads have been identified as village secretary David Kipgen, 40, son of (L) Jangkhohao from Selsi Village and vice chairman Henkholun Kipgen, 62, son of (L) Khohen Kipgen from Selsi Village.

Following Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s strong instructions, Kangpokpi Police Station detained both of them but they managed to escape from the police station on December 22 before they could take their statements.

In connection with their escape, OC Henminthang Kipgen, sub inspector SL Seiminthang, VDF personnel Paojamang and Thangjagin Chiru of Kangpokpi Police Station were suspended from their duties.

Both village heads were apprehended again on the evening of December 23 by Kangpokpi Police. They were earlier produced before JMIC Kangpokpi and remanded in Police custody for smooth investigation of the case.

Both of them were produced before Special Judge NDPS Senapati on Thursday and remanded in 15-day judicial custody.
