Arrested village heads remanded in police custody

Village secretary and vice chairman of Selsi village have been remanded in police custody till December 29.

The village secretary and vice chairman of Selsi village arrested by Kangpokpi Police in connection with poppy cultivation case have been remanded in police custody till December 29.

Following Chief Minister N Biren’s strong instructions, Kangpokpi Police Station detained village secretary David Kipgen, 40, son of (L) Jangkhohao Kipgen and vice chairman Henkholun Kipgen ,62, so of (L) Khohem, but managed to escape from the police station before they could take their statements. 

In connection with their escape, OC Henminthang Kipgen, sub inspector SL Seiminthang, VDF personnel Paojamang and Thangjagin Chiru of Kangpokpi Police Station were suspended from their duties.

Both village heads were apprehended again by village secretary David Kipgen and vice chairman Henkholun Kipgen on Friday by Kangpokpi Police.

The duo was transported to Imphal Police Station and produced before the JMIC first class. Both arrested persons were remanded in Police custody till December 29.
