Manipur War on Drugs: Arrested village chief released on bail

The chief of Thinghangjang village in Churachandpur district was released on bail under medical grounds.

A village chief who was arrested on December 23 for facilitating poppy cultivation was released on bail on Thursday, casting doubt on the progress of the state government’s War on Drugs campaign.   

Thinghangjang village chief Kamkhosei Haokip, 48, son of  (L) Otjathang Haokip was arrested from Songpi village in Churachandpur district on December 23 for facilitating poppy cultivation within his village. A suo motu case under FIR No 192(12)2022 CCP-PS under section 18(b)/25/27A/29 NDPS Act was registered for further investigation.

The village chief was released on bail under medical grounds by Sessions Judge and NDPS Special Judge Churachandpur Lamkhanpau Tonsing.
