Students of Borobekra Higher Secondary School, Borobekra sub division, Jiribam district on Wednesday took out a rally in the school premises demanding the state government to fill up the vacant posts for teachers at the earliest.
The students took out a rally, protesting the shortage of teachers and demanded the state government and the authorities concerned to appoint teachers during the upgrade of the school.
The students demanded the authorities to fill the vacancy of Chemistry subject teacher and appoint a regular principal or a vice principal. The students cautioned to shut down the school from October 1 if their demands are not met. The rally was supervised by Borobekra OC Shyam to prevent any unwanted incident.

The students submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Education minister, local MLA, director and Jiribam DC through the Borobekra sub division SDC M Debananda Singh.
Speaking at the event, Borobekra Higher Secondary School Students Union (BHSSSU) general secretary P Sanju Singh said that the school with about 700 students from class VI to class XII is facing acute shortage of teachers. The students had organised the rally and submitted the memorandum appealing to the authorities to fill the vacancy of teachers, he added.

He further appealed to the authorities concerned to appoint a teacher for Chemistry subject and a regular principal or a vice principal. He also demanded for the return of the teachers who were transferred from the school, while requesting the authorities concerned to add computer science subjects for the school in the following year.
During the rally, the students displayed slogans which read ‘We don’t want strike, we want education’, ‘How can we study without teacher’, ‘Fill the teacher vacancy’ and ‘Save the students of Borobekra School’.
