Condemning the gun attack at the residence of MPCC vice-president Hareshwar Goshwami in the strongest term, Manipur Congress Legislature Party leader (CLP) O Ibobi on Sunday said Congress is not the Opposition which will back off easily by such threat.

Unknown miscreants who reportedly came in a four wheeler, fired few rounds at the residence of Goshwami at Wangkhei in Imphal East during the intervening night of February 10 and 11. There was no report of any casualty or injuries though some parts of the house were slightly damaged by the bullets. An FIR was also lodged at Porompat police station in this regard, party sources said.

Speaking to the media at the residence of the MPCC vice-president, Ibobi also recalled the recent arson and piling of scraps at the gate of Congress Bhawan.

Pointing out that the Congress is a political party which strictly abides by the Indian Constitution with the ideology of secularism; he said such continuous attack on Congress with uncertain intention is an act of “crossing the limit and being a traitor.”

Such an act will only strengthen the party’s courage, he said, adding it is believed that the police will take up serious investigation to nab the perpetrators soon.

Questioning the faith of democracy, where the public cannot speak or comment against the government, the CLP leader said that dictatorship would not last long in such a sensitive zone like Manipur.

There will be a certain limit where the public would not be able to tolerate such a system any more; he said, adding that "this dictatorial government will face the wrath of the public".

“Let the arrest of those perpetrators who attack the Congress be a turning point for reviving democracy in Manipur,” Ibobi added.
