The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly condemned the attempt to burn the party’s office on Friday night. Decrying the incident, party members staged a one-day sit-in-protest in front of the party's office on Saturday.
MPCC general secretary Wahidur Rahman told media on the sidelines of the protest that some miscreants tried to burn down the party’s head office located at BT Road, which is a highly secure zone.
He said the state police is also not able to nab any of the miscreants involved during the incident. If such an incident can occur in a highly secured zone, then how can the government say the law-and-order situation in the state is getting better, he questioned.
Wahidur said there will be no value for democracy if the state government fails to book the miscreants involved in the incident within 24 hours.
He said when a person uploads some status in social media the present government nabs them immediately by filing FIR. However, no individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident that occurred in front of the MPCC head office, he said.
He also said after the incident no high-ranking police officer came for spot enquiry, not even the superintendent of police, Imphal West.
Protesters staged the protest with placards that read, “we condemned petrol bomb attack at Congress office”, “ Democracy is under threat”, “we condemned fake assault”, “we strongly condemn barbaric Act” and others.
