The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has called on the people of Manipur to refrain from organising any entertainment programmes on August 27, the Hunger Marchers Day 2022 and pay candle light tribute to those martyrs who laid down their lives in fight against the artificial famine of 1965.
AMSU is all set to hoist the 57th Hunger Marchers Day grandly with the usual mass-procession from Pishum Chinga Macha to DM University campus in Imphal West after a prolong gap of two years due to COVID-19 pandemic, said AMSU president H Chalamba while speaking to the media at its head office in Imphal.
He said that during the massive 1965’s protest which is also known as “Chaklam Khongchat”, four students namely Waikhom Nilamani Singh, Ningmeikapam Promodini Devi, Laishram Chaobhal Singh and Oinam Nabakumar Singh lost their lives.
The day is observed every year to spread awareness among the younger generations about the sacrifice made by those past leaders in the interest of the whole Manipur and to encourage the spirit of patriotism among the youths and the footsteps of those leaders, he elaborated.
Highlighting the curriculum that will be taken up as a part of the scheduled grand observance, Chalamba informed that a State Level General Knowledge Writing Competition will be organised on August 20 as a part of Chaklam Khongchat.
Ahead of conducting mobilising classes in different colleges and schools, various other competitions will also be organised at Tengnoupal and Jiribam district by its branch offices, he added.

The president also said that the foundation day of AMSU will also be organised the next day of Chaklam Khongchat along with a mega blood donation camp which will continue for five consecutive days.
Stating that AMSU's strength is the public support, the president sought the public support in all the welfare curriculums and activities taken up by the student body from time to time in the interest of all sections of Manipur.
