14 Indian police personnel awarded for gallant action in Northeast Region

1,082 police personnel across India awarded medals on occasion of Independence Day 2022.

A total of 14 police personnel have been awarded for gallant action in Northeast Region on the occasion of the Independence Day 2022, the Union Home Ministry said.

According to the ministry, 1,082 police personnel across the country have been awarded gallantry medals.

As many as 347 police personnel have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), 87 others awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM), and 648 honoured with Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM).

Among the majority of the 347 Gallantry Awards, 204 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in Jammu and Kashmir, 80 personnel for their gallant action in Left Wing Extremism affected areas and 14 personnel for their gallant action in North-East Region.

Among the personnel receiving Gallantry Awards, 109 are from CRPF, 108 are from J&K Police, 19 are from BSF, 42 are from Maharashtra, 15 are from Chhattisgarh and the remaining from the other States/UTs and CAPFs.

Meanwhile, in Manipur, the state government on Saturday announced the names of the police personnel to be awarded the Manipur Chief Minister's Police Medal for Gallantry and Manipur Chief Minister's Police Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty on the occasion of the Patriots' Day.

Deputy secretary (Home) Mayangbam Veto Singh notified that Chief Minister's Police Medal for Gallantry will be given to ASI A Krishna Sharma (Jiribam); Hav No 1711705 Debar Chongtham (2nd MR attached with CID Tech); Hav No 1299418 Md Islamuddin (2nd IRB attached with CDO Unit/BPR); W/SI Golmei Dorcas (I/W attached with NAB); Jemadar, JC No 809 S Jeshwanta Singh (7th IRB attached with CDO/IW; Jemadar, JC No 973 T lbomeha Singh (MPTC attached with CDO/IW).

Chief Minister's Police Medal for Outstanding Devotion to Duty will be given to H/C A Akha (Senapati); Rfn No 0820101311 Awungshi Hopingson ( 6th Bn MR); C/No 0901578 L.Sandeep (CID-SB); Rfn No 1299052 Ch Romesh Singh (2nd IRB attached with CDO/BPR) Jemadar, JC No 756 Joseph A Shatsang (6th MR); W/SI Gangmei Houreilu Kabuini (I/W); SI P Rakesh Singh (I/W); Porompat OC Geetanjali Devi (I/E), it stated.

The awards are granted under Rule 4 of the Manipur Chief Minister's Police Medal Rules governing the Awards for Gallantry/Outstanding Devotion to Duty, it mentioned. The medals will carry a lump-sum grant as specified under Rule 13 of the said Rules, it further stated, adding, the notification is issued with the approval of the competent authority.
