In continuation of the agitation demanding exemplary punishment against L Rokey, the husband of (L) Devia and family members who are prime accused in connection with her suspicious death, a sit-in protest was held opposite DM College Gate, Thangmeiband in Imphal West.
Organised under the banner of the Nupi Samaj, THANIL and Ima Khunthokhanbi Nisaband Meira Paibi, the protestors displayed placards and banner which read, "We oppose Crime against Women" and "Award benefitting punishment to killer(s) of Devia" among others.
Finance secretary of Nupi Samaj, M Ibeyaima, told the media that Devia's husband and in-laws underestimated the society by carrying out such a heinous crime.
The crime against women occurring in the state has become uncountable, she said, stressing the need of imposing death penalty to the culprit(s) involved in the killing of Devia to set an example and end the crime against women happening in the state for once and all.
(L) Devia, wife of L Rokey, was found hanging in the bedroom of her house at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai on April 22 in a suspicious manner with multiple bruise marks on her body, as per report.
In connection with the case, the husband along with five other family members have been arrested by the police and are undergoing judicial custody period and investigation of the case is in progress.
