Demanding state government action against the culprits in RK Bidya death case, several women organisations condemned the incident and conducted sit-in-protests at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, Imphal West and Ningthoukhong Bazar, Bishnupur district on Tuesday.

The protests was organised by JAC Against Torture Killing of RK Bidya along with village's organisations.

In connection with the death case, the Women Action for Development conducted a press meet on Tuesday at its office where its member Ksh Sapna condemned the incident saying that the incident was very suspicious. Women of Christian Network Positive Women, Manipur; Domestic Violence Forum; Conflict Widow Forum; Street Vendor Forum; People Living with HIV/AIDS and different types of survivor forums have demanded a thorough and deep investigation, she informed.

"Due to less punishment and long pending crimes against women cases, the number of cases is increasing in the state”, said Sapna, adding that once a culprit gets severe punishment then the crimes will reduce.

The state government should appoint more judges and a thorough investigation should be conducted against any suspicious dead cases, she said. Moreover, different organisations have been demanding the installation of a DNA machine at Forensic Science Lab but it is yet to be installed. Hence, due to the lack of a DNA machine, many cases are pending with results being awaited, she said.

"Do not stay away while hearing violent sounds in your neighbourhood, whether it is the husband and wife or family matters", said Sapna, calling on one and all to learn a lesson from this incident.

Speaking to the media during the sit-in-protest at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai, a woman said that the incident was very suspicious and that the deceased may have been tortured, killed and then hung by the husband's family as the neighbours heard the cry of the woman seeking for help before she died.
