Beyond the Thin Polling Line: It was all smiles among candidates of Saitu

Four candidates of different political parties were seen sharing a good time together as re-polling in 51/46 New Keithelmanbi Polling Station in 51-Saitu AC was underway.

In a rare accident in the history of Manipur Legislative Assembly Election in Kangpokpi election, of six candidates from 51-Saitu AC, four candidates of different political parties were seen crossing party lines and sharing a good time together as re-polling in 51/46 New Keithelmanbi Polling Station was underway on Saturday.

The four candidates were Dr. Lamtinthang Haokip of the INC, Haokholet Kipgen, Independent, Ngamthang Haokip of the BJP, and K Lhouvum of NPP. They were seen standing together, unmasked, and wearing warm smiles.

On seeing them sharing a good time together, a voter in Kangpokpi remarked, "Had they been like this before, there would have been no repolling of the constituency".

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday declared the poll taken on February 28 at 12 polling stations in the state on poll day one as void and ordered fresh poll / repoll in one polling station each in Khundrakpam and Saitu Assembly constituencies, another three in Thanlon AC, five in Henglep AC and two polling stations in Singhat AC, on March 5, from 7 am to 4 pm.

The proposal for re-poll in these polling stations was recommended based on the facts and information recieved from respective returning officers, the ECI stated in a release, explaining that one of the main reasons for consideration of re-polling was connected to damage of EVMs by miscreants during and after the poll.
