The United Meitei Pangal Committee (UPMC) on Friday strongly condemned the physical assault on two individuals of the Meitei Pangal community, stating that the Meitei Pangals should not be made to become a scapegoat during the unrest in the state.
UMPC spokesperson Raes Ahmed narrated that the two persons, who are truck driver and a handyman, went to pave stone for construction of Moreh Police Housing at Moreh. They were severely beaten by unknown persons, he added.
He said that since conflict in the state started from May, 2023, the Meitei Pangal community played a big role in the attempts to restore normalcy, and there were many issues faced by the community due to the crisis also.
Meanwhile, the unfortunate incident against the community is highly condemnable, he mentioned. A truck driver, namely Md Ela and handyman Md Abdul Rajak were kidnapped and they were beaten dreadfully. Their mobile phones and trucks were also taken away, he said.
UMPC urged the state government to take action against those culprits involved. The committee will support the Joint Action Committee formed in connection with the incident, he added.
