Some Kuki volunteers reportedly detained and brutally assaulted two persons for providing stones for construction of Manipur Commando barrack at border town Moreh on Thursday.
The two persons have been identified as one Md Elaa Singamayum, son of Md Ibungo of Kairang Chingkhong (driver) and Md Emin, 29, son of Md Sanaton of Kairang Chingya Leikai both from Imphal East district.
The incident took place at around 1.30 pm at M Chahnou village when the two persons were returning from Police IB, Moreh in a dump truck bearing registration number AS25FC 0749 after unloading some stones at Police IB, Moreh.
Police reported that they were detained by some unknown Kuki village volunteers numbering around 8-15, at M Chahnou village, Moreh. The two persons were reportedly brought blindfolded by the said volunteers at a bypass road, Moreh.
When the two persons reached the spot many Kuki volunteers came out holding sophisticated weapons and started assaulting them brutally for providing stones for construction of CDO’s barrack.
The driver confessed and told them that they were just obeying orders given by the owner of the vehicle. After 30-40 minutes they were threatened not to continue such acts in the future and were released.
Police further reported that one mobile phone and the dump truck remained in the possession of the said Kuki volunteers. Later, a team of Moreh Police station led by OC, Moreh, inspector Md Salauddin rescued the two persons from Joujang village.
A case has been registered at Moreh police station and requested to take necessary legal action against those Kuki volunteers as per law and also to recover the seized dump truck and mobile phone.
