Religious fervour fills the air as Kang festival celebration in Manipur begins

The festival of Kang (Rath Yatra) is celebrated on the second day of the fourth lunar calendar ‘Engen’ and culminates at the tenth of the month as ‘Kanglen’.

The celebration of the festival of Kang (Rath Yatra) began on Friday in Manipur with a ritual ceremony and pulling of chariot (Kang Chingba) of Lord Jaganath from Govindajee temple.

The festival is celebrated on the second day of the fourth lunar calendar ‘Engen’ and culminates at the tenth of the month as ‘Kanglen’. Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the Govindajee temple in the morning and offered prayers to lord Jaganath, Balabhadra and Subhadra. Afterwards, ‘Kang Chingba’ officially began.

During the pulling of the chariot, devotees offered fruits, flowers and others in front of the chariot to the lord Jaganath.

The ‘Kang Chingba’ of Govindajee was conducted on the Palace Compound road and after making a u-turn from the front of MSFDS.  The process was concluded in front of Govindajee temple main gate.

Similar celebrations were also seen at ISKON, Sangaiprou where Minister Th Biswajit, MLA, Kunjakeswor and others took part at the festival.

The chariot was pulled by the devotees on the Tiddim road and from Hodam Leirak, the chariot made a u-turn and headed towards its destination at ISKON temple, Sangaiprou.

Different types of smaller chariots were seen at different streets of the state where many devotees offered fruits, flowers and other edible items in front of the chariots as a part of the festival.
