As the road expansion work from Canchipur to Lilong Bridge along NH-102 is being carried out to upgrade the 3km stretch of road to a four-lane road, around 13 ‘Sana Khongnangs’ (Sacred Fig/Peepal trees) growing alongside the road are at the risk of being cut down and it has raised concerns among the public.
The Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) stated that 13 aged-old trees, including the sacred Sana Khongnang trees are going to be felled as a part of the ongoing road expansion project of Imphal to Moreh.
The peepal tree, which holds historical significance at Khangabok Part I, Sanilou area, was cut down and uprooted for the construction of Indo-Myanmar road.
