Gold medallist judokas Linthoi Chanambam was given a roaring reception by Manipur Judo Association and Mayai Lambi Sports Academy in the presence of Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam at Mayang Imphal on Friday.

Linthoi Chanambam clinched the gold medal in the World Judo Cadets' Championship 2022 that was held at Sarajevo, Bosnia from August 24-26. She is the first judoka from the Country to have bagged an International gold medal in a Judo event.
Lauding her effort and epoch making journey that she had made by bringing home the first gold medal in Judo, YAS minister Govindas Kongthoujam presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakhs and urged her to carry on the gook work she had rendered and assured all possible help from the state government side.

Thanga legislator T Robindro Singh, who also is chairman of MSPDCL, and president MJA Mayang Imphal legislator and MANIDCO chairman K Robindro Singh, Bijoy Koijam MJA working president among others were also present on the occasion and gave their blessing to the new youth Judo icon.

Chief minister N Biren Singh had earlier accorded a warm welcome to Linthoi Chanambam at his office secretariat on Wednesday and presented a cheque of Rs 10 lakh for her commendable gold medal. N Biren also assured to provide her financial reward under the state sports policy and accorded a befitting reception as well.

Linthoi hails from Mayang Imphal Thana Khunou village, Imphal West and is the daughter of Ch Ibohal Singh and Guneshwori Devi. She took up Judo in 2014 under Mayai Lambi Judo Academy and later joined JSW Inspire Institute of Sports. She grabbed a bronze medal in Asia-Oceania Cadet Championship 2021 at Lebanon and silver medal in Junior category. She also bagged a gold medal in Asian Cadet Judo Championship and many gold medals under her belts from National arena.
