The Naga Hoho expressed outraged at the "horrifying incident" where two women were paraded naked and sexually assaulted on May 4, 2023 by a marauding mob.
"Such heinous acts have no place in any civilized society, and we demand immediate action to bring justice to all the victims and their families," the Naga Hoho demanded on Friday.
The Naga Hoho then said these atrocious acts of violence, committed against the vulnerable sections of the society, reflect not only a gross violation of human rights but also a shameful disregard for the principles of humanity and justice.
"Justice must be served swiftly, without any bias or hesitation, it also stated. "Moreover, we demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the heinous acts, including the perpetrators, local leaders, vigilante groups and members of civil society organizations complicit in such crimes... This should extend to the police personnel who failed in their duty to protect the vulnerable and remained mere spectators," the Naga Hoho said.
It then called upon all peace-loving citizens to raise their voices fearlessly and unconditionally, urging the authorities to act diligently to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
The Naga Hoho also said it is crucial that the government of Manipur and the police be held accountable for their inaction, as their negligence and failure to protect the citizens have only exacerbated the situation.
"We must unite as one against such barbaric acts and demand that the rule of law prevails. Naga Hoho stands in solidarity with the victims and their families, and we extend our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones," it stated.
