All Indian women are with the women of Manipur: Netta Antoinette D'Souza

In a bid to address the distressing situation in Manipur caused by the ongoing unrest, the president of All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC), Netta Antoinette D'Souza, along with a delegation, arrived in the violence-hit Manipur on Friday, on a peace mission.

The delegation, which included general secretary of AIMCC Seema Saadikha, and the President of Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee Mira Borthakur Gosami landed in Imphal and immediately headed to Raj Bhawan to meet with governor Anusuiya Uikey. Accompanied by former minister Ak Mirabai and vice-president of MPCC L Tilotama, the delegation submitted a memorandum calling for the restoration of peace in the region.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the AIMCC president strongly condemned the recent viral incident of a naked parade, expressing her solidarity with all the women in Manipur who have been suffering from harassment and violence.

"The whole women of the nation are with the women of Manipur. Be brave," she said.

She emphasised that such actions against women, irrespective of their caste, community, or origin, must be stopped immediately.

The delegation conveyed the sentiments of women from across the nation, expressing their concern and demanding the safety and security of women in Manipur, she said adding, they also requested a comprehensive list of all FIRs lodged in the state related to crimes against women.

The Governor assured them that she would obtain the list from the DGP and make efforts to ensure the safety of women in the region, she said.

"We stand for peace in Manipur, and our hearts go out to all those affected by the ongoing crisis. You have our support and love," the AIMCC President added.

The delegation plans to stay in Manipur for a couple of days to meet with the victims of the ongoing crisis and further assess the situation.

Their visit is aimed at advocating for peace and safety, especially for women who have been disproportionately affected by the unrest.
