The amount of cash and quantities of contraband items seized in poll-bound Nagaland by authorities have reached nearly Rs 37 crore worth now.
As a part of implementing election model code of conduct in Nagaland, authorities have seized banned goods worth around Rs 33 crore and nearly Rs 3 crore in cash since the announcement of the poll date.
The Election Commission of India announced the date of the poll on January 18. This means that the seizures were made in the past 24 days.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland informed on Monday that the “monetary value of the progressive seizures made by various enforcement agencies from the date of announcement till February 12 is Rs 36,99,56,169.882 (thirty six crore ninety nine lakhs fifty six thousand one hundred sixty nine rupees and eighty eight paisa).
As per the election schedule announced by the Election Commission of India on January 18, Nagaland will go to polls on on February 27 to elect 60 members to the state Legislative Assembly.
The counting of votes will take place on March 2. The tenure of the 13th Nagaland Legilsative Assembly ends on March 12.
