Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday said that to strengthen the state government’s ‘War on Drugs’, it has issued instructions to allow all the police personnel, including IRB and Manipur Rifles, for frisking and checking besides the state narcotics cell, and the people should cooperate with the government.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the election of Chairman, Hill Area Committee (HAC) at Manipur Legislative Assembly campus, Chingmeirong, Imphal on Tuesday.
It is compulsory for those who are arrested in drug-related cases to be put behind bars for at least one-two years, said Biren. He also appealed to the special court to speed up the proceedings for drug-related cases.

He had earlier mentioned that the government will not spare any person regardless of who they are if found involved in drug-related cases.
As the present government has started taking up frequent activities in connection with ‘War on Drugs’, the seizing of drugs and arresting of peddlers are increasing.
Responding to the media, CM Biren said there is no paediatrics or cancer hospital in the state and some patients are preferring to undergo treatment outside the state due to lack of facilities. The government will also take necessary steps should the contractual staffs recruited during the pandemic are to be engaged, he added.
