Dinganglung Gangmei alias Dipu Gangmei was on Tuesday elected as the new chairman of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) unanimously and unopposed.
A notification issued by Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary K Meghachandra Singh mentioned that Dinganglung Gangmei, member of the Hill Area Committee, Manipur Legislative Assembly was elected as HAC chairman on Tuesday.
Speaking to mediapersons, Dipu expressed his gratitude to the 19 members of HAC for supporting him unanimously to become HAC chairman. He said that though he is elected as HAC chairman, all the 19 committee members are highly experienced members. From time to time any work beneficial for the hill people will be taken into action after considering with the HAC members, he said.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter to congratulate Dipu Gangmei, who succeeded K Leisiyo as the HAC chairman.
"Congratulations to Hon’ble MLA, Shri Dinganglung Gangmei (Dipu) on being elected as the Chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC). Looking forward to working with you to further enhance the process of peace and development in the hills of Manipur." Biren tweeted.
Dipu, who is a retired IAS officer, is the MLA of 54-Nungba constituency. He defeated senior Congress stalwart and former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam Gangmei with a margin of 3,786 votes by securing 14,464 votes in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election.
The resignation of D Gangmei as member of the Indian Administrative Service was accepted with effect from November 11, 2021.
On January 7, 2022, D Gangmei was appointed as the new Joint Secretary (RD & PR) from his previous post of DC, Kakching.
Meanwhile, congratulating Dipu Gangmei, Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter and wrote, "Congratulations to Hon’ble MLA, Shri Dinganglung Gangmei (Dipu) on being elected as the Chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC). Looking forward to working with you to further enhance the process of peace and development in the hills of Manipur."
