Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Churachandpur on Saturday raised allegations that the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) has reportedly served monetary demands to some members of the Churachandpur District Private Schools and Colleges Association (CDPSCA).

In a release signed by its secretary information and publicity T Samuel Guite, KSO Churachandpur stated that the act of serving monetary demands by the armed organisation was a “sign of growing boldness to widen extortion and tighten their grip on the region.”

The development came in the backdrop of recent IED blast at the gate of Little Flower School, Imphal after alleged monetary demands were served to several private schools by militant groups, it stated. Armed militant groups in the state have become more aggressive and frightening as they threaten their targets with bombings and murders, it added.

KSO Churachandpur condemns in the strongest terms such an act of 'terrorising' educational institutions and students, it stated. It further appealed to the state government, in the interest of a brighter future for each and every one, to take up drastic measures to stop victimising students and prevent using educational institutions as tools for ransom.

The student body further stated that it is aghast at the murder of one Anan Gupta on Friday by unknown miscreant(s) and condemns the killing.

The KSO Churachandpur also questioned the district administration and police as to how could such unwanted killing be meted out to the civilians right under their nose.  “The onus now falls upon the district administration to show its commitment by working with the police to pursue those responsible for this heinous act,” it added.
