Three admitted to RIMS in suspected food poisoning case

Somorjit’s wife Rani is nine-month pregnant. Her condition is critical and she is being kept at ICU.

In a suspected case of food poisoning, three members of a family from Laphupat Tera Part - II, under Hiyanglam assembly constituency in Thoubal district were admitted to RIMS for treatment after they suffered from vomiting and diarrhea. 

The patients, namely Ningthoujam Ongbi Sobita, 45, wife of N Nungshithoi; Somorjit, 24, who is son of Nungshithoi and Somorjit’s wife Rani, 18, from Laphupat Tera Part-2 had consumed a meal of chicken that was bought from a meat shop at Hiyangkhong around 6 pm Saturday, according to N Somorjit.

Besides the chicken, they also had an ‘Eromba’ dish that was prepared with seasoned bitter beans. Five members of the family had consumed the meal.  

Around 4 am on Sunday, Sobita, Somorjit and Rani started vomiting while Somorjit suffered from diarrhea. However, Nungshithoi and his youngest son, Thoithoiba were fine and did not experience any health issues. 

The three of them were admitted to RIMS on Sunday morning. Somorjit’s wife Rani is nine-month pregnant. Her condition is critical and she is being kept at ICU. Sobita and Somorjit are being treated at the Casualty ward.
