Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday attended the flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate Imo Singh of Sagolband constituency and said the people of Sagolband have resolved to teach the opposition and those involved in burning BJP flag a lesson this time.
"Attending the flag hoisting ceremony of Shri @imosingh Ji, BJP candidate for Sagolband constituency. The people of Sagolband have resolved to teach the opposition and people who have burnt the party flag, a lesson this time," Biren tweeted.
Several dissidents in the party, who were denied BJP tickets for the coming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Elections, set fire to party flags and other items as a mark of protest against the decision of the BJP leadership.
Following the protest, several jumped ships to other political parties and over 3,000 BJP workers of Keishamthong assembly constituency resigned from the party.

The BJP on January 30 announced its candidates list for all the 60 constituencies in Manipur. The BJP denied tickets to three of its MLAs. The MLAs who were denied the tickets are senior legislator Y Irabot Singh of Wangkhei, P Saratchanra of Moirang and M Rameshwar Singh of Kakching.
Manipur will go to polls in two Phases on February 27 and March 3. The first phase polling for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held in 38 Assembly Constituencies on February 27 and in 22 seats in the second phase on March 3. The counting of votes will be held on March 10.
