Manipur Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo on Sunday visited K Songnung, Kangchup Hills near Phayeng, Imphal West as a part of the measures to defend the villagers from attacks by suspected Kuki militants.
Speaking to the media, minister Dingo said that he came to the area for spot verification and area domination against suspected Kuki militants.
A temporary outpost of the BSF will be set up while state forces will be deployed at K Sonung village for the protection of villagers of Phayeng and surrounding area, he said.
He said the area is a good spot to install the outpost so that a strict vigil can be maintained against any unwanted attacks.
For other areas of the Kangchup hill range, personnel of the 7th Manipur Rifles are deployed at Singda, he said. At Kangchup Chiru, a company of BSF has been deployed, he added.
With the deployment of BSF and state forces in such vulnerable areas, the villagers will be protected and peace will be maintained, he said.
Later, the minister also visited the Singda and surrounding areas the same day. Officer-in-charge of Lamshang police station, Kangpokpi police station and BSF personnel also attended the visit.
