As Manipur continues to reel under the present turmoil, yoga practitioners in Imphal under the banner of the All Manipur Yoga Fraternity Union have decided to forego the celebration of International Day of Yoga 2023 on June 21. Instead, they will observe a day of mourning for the victims of violence.
The exact location for this solemn event will be announced at a later date, vice-president of Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Th Rajen, told mediapersons during a sit-in protest.
Yoga practitioners held a protest at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen in Imphal West on Sunday under the aegis of the All Manipur Yoga Fraternity Union. The protestors demanded restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Rajen also highlighted the root causes of the ongoing crisis in the state and emphasised that the government's crackdown on poppy cultivation and efforts to protect forests have played a significant role in fueling the current situation.
To restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, Rajen called upon the government to rein in the Kuki militants, who have been involved in acts of violence, and stressed the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to address the issue of illegal immigration in the state.
