Following the ideology of scientific socialism in today's imperialism globalisation period will be the only key to give genuine democracy to the public, said state secretary of CPI, Manipur L Thoiren on Thursday.
He was speaking to the media on the sideline of the observance of 96 Birth Anniversary of Comrade Biplabi Thokchom Bira at CPI, Manipur head office in Imphal West.
Paying of floral and candle light tribute to the portrait of late Bira and to the bust of Hijam Irabot marked the opening ceremony of the observance.
The secretary said that the present political scenario of the country cannot be called as democratic society. The so-called democracy which people are enjoying is just namesake, it does not match the real definition of democracy, he added.
Democracy in the country will be meaningful only when the public are self-sustainable and are leading a dignified life, he said, stressing the need to follow the footsteps and ideology of Hijam Irabot.
Highlighting the life history of late Bira, the secretary said Bira was a dynamic leader who had taken an immense role in strengthening the CPI in Manipur following the footsteps of Irabot for making an egalitarian society.
He also informed that September is an emotional month of the communist party as it is the month Irabot was born, left the world and was underground in the fight against imperialism.
The function was also attended by CPI national executive member Dr M Nara; chairman of state control committee CPI L Iboyaima; leader of Tripura CPI Yudhisthir Das; former state secretary of CPI Manipur L Sotinkumar and secretary of Keithel Nupi Marup L Meme Devi as presidium members.
