Samurou Killing: SIT constituted to probe incident

The Manipur government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in connection with the killing of two persons by armed miscreants at Samurou to investigate the case FIR. No. 2(1)2022 u/s 307/326/34 IPC & 25 (1-C) Arms Act, added 302 IPC of Wangoi Police Station.

The SIT is constituted with additional SP (Ops) Imphal West M Amit Singh as head of the investigation team and SDPO Mayang Imphal Kh Farook Ali as investigating officer of the case, stated an order issued by superintendent of Police Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta Singh on Monday.

Officer in charge, Wangoi Police Station S Nabajiban Ningthouja and SI P Bishorjit Singh of Wangoi Police Station shall assist the investigating officer in the investigation of the case, it stated.

The officer-in-charge of Wangoi Police Station and the investigation officer of the case has been directed to handover the case record to SDPO Mayang Imphal Kh Farook Ali for further investigation, as per the order.

The investigation team should submit the progress of the investigation to the superintendent of Police Imphal West on a daily basis, it added.

It may be mentioned that, two men, including an active worker of state Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi, were shot at by unidentified persons near Machu Cinema Hall at Samurou under Wangoi Police Station, along Mayai Lambi Road in Imphal West around 10 pm Sunday. 

The two were rushed to separate hospitals. While one identified as Abujam John succumbed to his injuries around 10.30 pm on Sunday at Advance Hospital, Sashkianta died around 5 am on Monday after undergoing an operation at Raj Medicity, police said.

Meanwhile, post mortem was conducted on the bodies of deceased BJP worker and a Havildar who were killed in a gun attack by an unidentified person at Samurou Awang Leikai under Wangoi Police Station, Imphal West late Sunday, on Tuesday.

The post-mortem was held at RIMS Hospital in the presence of a magistrate while a video recording was also conducted. As per sources, a projectile from the 9mm bullet was found lodged in the arm of Abujam Sashikanta.

Although the post-mortem examination has been completed, the bodies of the deceased persons are still kept at the mortuary, while the 48-hour deadline set by the JAC is yet to end.
