Actor-turned-politician Th Maheshwar, who is the national secretary of RPI(A) vying for the inner parliamentary seat of Manipur, firmly asserted his dedication to his people over party allegiance.

"Party is a secondary consideration for me. If my party obstructs my mission for the people, I won't hesitate to part ways," Maheshwar declared.

Describing himself as an optimist driven by action rather than mere words, Maheshwar emphasised his commitment to what is right and just. Speaking to a team of media, the 32-year-old contender, one of the youngest MP candidates nationwide, highlighted the urgent need for a politically empowered representative from Manipur to navigate the corridors of central governance for the state's upliftment.

He blamed both the BJP and the Opposition Congress for the ongoing crisis in Manipur which he claimed as external aggression stating that it was the result of their irregularities in administrations during their respective regimes.

As the BJP and the Congress have failed Manipur, it was the public who has endorsed him to become the needed political warrior of Manipur, he said.

Despite being a member of RPI(A) from the outset and expressing allegiance to the party as long as it supports his cause for Manipur, Maheshwar highlighted his potential significance as the lone Lok Sabha MP representing RPI(A).

This, he believes, would allow him an independent platform to champion Manipur-centric issues, despite RPI(A) being part of the NDA coalition and not directly allied with the BJP.

With a vision focused on restoring normalcy in Manipur and aiding displaced victims in resettlement with dignity as his immediate priority post-election, Maheshwar urged the electorate to support him, symbolised by the "pen nib with seven rays" assigned by the ECI.

It is worth noting that Maheshwar narrowly missed victory in Keishamthong AC MLA race during 2022's Manipur Assembly election.
