LS Polls 2024: Six candidates in Inner, four in Outer Manipur to contest election

Manipur will go to polls in two phases - on April 19 and April 29.

With no candidates filing for withdrawal till 3 pm of Saturday, a total of six candidates will contest for the seat of No. 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha election, which is scheduled to take place on April 19.

The list of contesting candidates for the upcoming 18th Lok Sabha Election are – Angomcha Bimol Akoijam (Indian National Congress) with the allotted election symbol ‘Hand’; Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh (Bharatiya Janata Party) with the allotted election symbol ‘Lotus’; Maheshwar Thounaojam (Republican Party of India - Athawale) with the allotted election symbol ‘Pen nib with seven rays’.

Moirangthem Totomshana Nongshaba (Independent) with the allotted election symbol ‘Coat’; Rajkumar Somendro Singh alias Kaiku (Independent) with the allotted election symbol ‘Ship’ and Haorungbam Sarat Singh (Independent) with the allotted election symbol ‘Football Player’ will also contest the election.

Meanwhile, the deadline for withdrawal of nominations for the polling in 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency for the General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2024 also ended on Saturday at 3 pm.

A total of four nominations have been finalised for the parliamentary seat as no contesting candidate withdrew their nomination.

The candidates contesting for the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency seat are Alfred Kanngam S Arthur Indian National Congress), Kachui Timothy Zimik (Naga People’s Front), Alyson Abonmai (Independent) and S Kho John (Independent).

The election symbol of Alfred Kanngam S Arthur ( Indian National Congress) is the ‘Hand’ and Kachui Timothy Zimik (Naga People’s Front) has been alloted the ‘Cock’. Independent candidate Alyson Abonmai is alloted ‘Diamond’ and S Kho John is alloted ‘Trumpet’ as election symbol.

The Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency elections will be held on April 29.
