Repair work at the distressed Songkolei RCC Bridge under Sapermeina Police Station at National Highway Imphal-Dimapur road began on Tuesday after the bridge had become unsafe and dangerous to cross for commuters.
The repair work was initiated after an engineering team of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) inspected the bridge.
On Tuesday morning, the NHIDCL team brought a JCB and the ground leveling around the bridge was started. To conduct a test, the cracks at the beam and the worn out concrete were filled up with wall putty. Further course of action will be considered by checking the results of the tests in a few days.
To avoid unwanted incidents, traffic regulations at the bridge had begun from Monday evening.
As per sources, it is likely that a bailey bridge will be constructed beside Songkolei bridge which has become dangerous to cross.
