As a mark of disappointment against denying the discussion on Kangla Declaration made by all the Meetei MLAs and MPs, all the five Opposition MLAs walked out of the floor of the Assembly after an argument with the Speaker.

Of the total five MLAs of the Opposition party four of them sought the permission for admission of the discussion on the Kangla Declaration during private member resolution, considering it as a solution to the ongoing crisis.

However, the Speaker refused to admit the discussion during the private member resolution and carried on with a sole discussion on implementation of NRC raised by MLA Leishiyo.

While raising the argument, the Speaker even warned the Opposition MLAs of raising their voice against his decision and suggested that they can walk out if they are not satisfied with the House’s proceedings.

The leader of the House, Chief Minister N Biren Singh alleged the walking out of all the Opposition MLAs as not supporting the move of NRC implementation. However, the Congress party objected to the allegation stating that they fully endorse the move for implementation of NRC.

Walking out was not a move of boycotting the Assembly by the Opposition but solidarity against defying the rights of the opposition members, said CLP leader O Ibobi while speaking to the media outside the Assembly complex in Imphal.

It is also unfortunate that the House does not give an appropriate reply on the questions raised by the Opposition on the muting of member’s mike during some of the arguments, he said.

The muting of mike during some arguments raised by Opposition members was also witnessed before they walked out of the floor.

The Opposition wants the House to adopt the resolution on the points made in the Kangla Declaration which also includes the implementation of NRC, however it is unfortunate that the House denied the discussion, he added.
