No evidence has been found in the case of kidnapping a school student by unidentified persons at Mayotang Zone II in Manipur's Ukhrul town on June 10, police said.
According to W Marchang, officer incharge, Ukhrul police station, police investigation in the case is under way. "For the last four days, we have been investigating the case but so far we haven’t found any convincing evidences or eyewitnesses in the case," he said.
In connection with the case, an FIR No. 18(06)/2022/UKL-PS was registered at Ukhrul district police station by chairman of Mayotang P Somi on June 11, a day after the incident, police said.
In the report, the informant stated that on “10/06/2022 at around 4.30 pm, a nine-year-old boy Castle Ikror Rephung, son of Priscila Rephung of Pharung village and presently residing at Mayotang, Ukhrul, was kidnapped from near his home by some unknown miscreants numbering around four to five while he was on his way to attend a coaching class a few meters away from his home.
Marchang further stated that the unknown youths asked Rephung to come. “The youths then gaged his mouth using chemicals like chloroform that rendered him unconscious.
"When he regained sense after more than an hour, he found himself inside a gunny sack. He called out for his elder brother. Then his elder sister and others came and removed him from the sack and carried him home,” the report stated.
“The case itself is serious in nature and as such your kind authority is requested to arrest the accused persons and punish them as per law of the land,” Somi stated in the report.
Early Wednesday, a peaceful protest against the attempt to kidnap was carried out. The rally demanded the authorities concerned to book the culprits involved in the case at the earliest and sought the attention of the state government to ensure safety of the student community in the district.
