A total bandh along National Highway-37 under Noney district jurisdiction has been called by local clubs and organisations in protest against shortage of doctors.
An emergency joint leadership meeting held on Monday decided to imposed the bandh along NH-37 under Noney district with effect from 6 am of Wednesday to 6 pm of Friday.
The meeting was organised by the Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA) in view of the state government’s failure to fulfill the ultimatum served for providing adequate doctors and staff at Noney Primary Health Centre and other health centres of the district.
The proposed total bandh is announced in pursuance to the declaration made by the Public Convention on February 16 at Longmai Bazar Shed represented by all the Local based CSO’s demanding adequate doctors and staff at PHC, Noney and other Health Centre of the district within an ultimatum of four days i.e. February 16- 19.
The state government had deliberately failed to honour the legitimate claim of the right to basic health care entitled to every dignified citizen of the state, the meeting observed.
The joint meeting resolved that all the commercial vehicles, passenger, goods and all the enterprises within the jurisdiction of VCLA, including shops and vegetable vendors and all the national project undertaking in the area are strongly advised to cooperate with the declaration.
Considering the welfare of the public, the meeting further resolved to exempt transportation of school students and candidates appearing for examinations from the purview of the bandh.
The meeting also resolved to exempt emergency cases, other religious gatherings, water supply, Electricity department, press and media from the purview of the total bandh.
The VCLA meeting also decided to intensify the agitation if the authorities concerned continued to ignore the charter of demands duly presented by them.
