The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) on Thursday condemned the firing incident at Makuai village in Tamenglong district allegedly by Assam Rifles against women of the village.
MNYO, in a release, briefed the details of the incident stating that a group of women reportedly held a peaceful protest to prevent para-military personnel from stopping the ongoing training of village defense forces.
Such unprovoked firing by Assam Rifles troopers upon innocent women has tarnished the image and reputation of the Indian Security Forces and impedes India’s aspirations to be a global leader, it accused.
The actions of the 6 AR allegedly betray the values of a democratic nation and sow seeds of terror instead of fostering peace, it lamented. It expressed concern that any unpredictable situation might arise, dragging Nagas in Manipur into ethnic conflict and urged the community to draw up a contingency plan to face any eventuality.
It also alleged that the state machinery has failed, law and order collapsed and central and state security forces have failed to protect people’s lives and properties. It reiterated its condemnation of the incident and urged the higher authorities of the Government of India to swiftly address the issue, it added.
