Manipur violence death toll climbs to 56, two missing

The communal violence in Manipur has so far left 43 dead in Imphal and 13 in Churachandpur, and over 100 total people injured in several parts of the state.

As many as 56 persons have died and 120 others injured till Saturday, while two other people are reportedly missing in connection with the communal clash that erupted in the Manipur since May 3, official sources said.

As per the sources, JNIMS reported 15 cases of deaths, including three women, RIMS reported 28 cases of deaths, including four women. A total of 13 people died in Churachandpur, the sources said.

Of the injured, Shija Hospitals in Imphal reported 11 injured persons, while 69 injured persons are admitted in JNIMS while 40 others were admitted in RIMS, the sources added.

Meanwhile, amid the communal unrest prevailing in the state, two individuals of Khum-bong in Imphal West have reportedly gone missing after they left their houses around 11 am on Saturday.

The missing individuals are one Atom Samarendra Singh, 47, son of Atom Krishnamohon and Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh, 47, son of Late Yum-khaibam Kalajeet Singh, both hail from Khumbong Bazaar. The same was stated in a missing report filed by Imphal West Students' Club, Khumbong.

Expressing apprehension that the two might have been abducted, the bereaved family appealed to those concerned to release them unconditionally, if such had happened.

They further appealed to any individuals who come across them to report their whereabouts to the family members or to the nearest Police Station, it stated. Samarendra is serving as the Secretary of Imphal Student's Club Khumbong at present, it added.
