Curfew relaxed in parts of violence-hit Manipur, Common Helpline Desk set up in Imphal

Manipur Violence: Eleven district administrations have ordered temporary relief to the people from the indefinite curfew.

Curfew has been relaxed in parts of violence-hit Manipur on Monday (May 8), citing improved situation with the deployment of more Central security and State forces in all vulnerable areas and area domination excercises and preventive measures. A Common Helpline Desk has also been set up in Imphal for addressing distress call, official sources said.

According to an official release issued late Sunday, 11 district administrations have ordered temporary relief to the people from the indefinite curfew.

Following the orders, curfew has been lifted for a few hours in Imphal East and Imphal West from 5 am to 8 am, and 1 pm to 3 pm in Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Kakching, 5 am to 10 am for Jiribam, 8 am to 10 am for Bishnupur, 6 am to 6 pm for Pherzawl, 6 am to 10 am and 1 pm to 3 pm for Chandel, and 7 am to 10 am for Churachandpur and Tengnoupal.

A Common Helpline Desk has also been set up in Imphal for addressing distress call. The contact numbers, according to the release are: 7005706576, 9862064020, 7005475374, 700527760, 8794475406, 8730931414, 9436034077.

The government has also been felicitating safe passage to affected persons trying to reach their homes across the state, the release added.

It further stated that relief camps have been opened in the violence-affected districts to provide shelter and food to affected individuals and families.

"The government is trying to provide the best care to the affected persons... The government is firmly committed to fighting this violence and check the tension in the state and appeal to the people against spreading false and bias information on social media platforms or through mobile phone messages which could fuel the violence further," stated the release issued by the Chief Minister Secretariat, Imphal.
