The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi has decided to impose a 72-hour total shutdown along the National Highway -2 from midnight of July 16.
The CoTU decision to impose the total shutdown was announced during its emergency meeting held at Gamgiphai on Sunday afternoon, which strongly condemned the various forms of violence against the Kuki-Zo people.
CoTU announced that during the total shutdown in Kangpokpi district, all shops and vehicle movement, including private vehicles, will completely cease in the district. However, medical services will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown, it stated.
CoTU general secretary Lamminlun Singsit said that an unruly mob torched three trucks of Misao Gas Service on Saturday in Sekmai.

He further alleged that insurgents attacked Kuki-Zo village Thangbuh and Tingkai Khullen in Kangpokpi district on Sunday at around 10 am and killed one innocent Kuki-Zo volunteer. The deceased has been identified as one Jangkholun Haokip (34), son of Jangkhai Haokip of Thangbuh village, it stated.

In view of the series of incidents, the CoTU decided to impose a total shutdown in the entire Kangpokpi district, including a blockade along the National Highway-2.
