LPG truck arson: 17 remanded to police custody

Nineteen persons, who were arrested in connection with the torching of three trucks in Imphal West, were produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West. on Sunday.

Seventeen of the 19 persons arrested by the Imphal West District Police in connection with the burning of the three LPG trucks on Saturday at Awang Sekmai Mayai Leikai Lampak have been remanded in police custody for four days.

The Manipur Police Control Room on Sunday stated that 19 persons were arrested by the Imphal West District Police in connection with the torching of three empty trucks at Awang Sekmai Mayai Leikai Lampak, Imphal West on Saturday.

They were produced before the Duty Magistrate Imphal West on Sunday and 17 were remanded in police custody for four days and two were referred to Juvenile Justice Board.

Raids are continuing to arrest other accused persons, the police control room said.

Meanwhile, nine persons, including five women, were arrested by the Imphal East District Police following an operation launched by state police and Central forces in Phaileng area, Kangpokpi district.

The operation took place following an intermittent firing by armed miscreants reported at few places, according to the Manipur Police Control Room.

Two arms and nine ammunition were recovered and the miscreants were repelled, the police added.

Situation is tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob during the last 24 hours, the police said, adding that State Police and Central forces conducted search operations in the vulnerable and fringe areas of both valley and hill districts.

A total of seven bunkers were destroyed in the operations, the police added.

During the last 24 hours, intermittent firing by armed miscreants were reported at a few places. Police and Central forces launched an operation in Phaileng area, Kangpokpi District and two arms and nine ammunition were recovered and the miscreants were repelled, the control room said.

Also, nine persons, including five women, were arrested by the Imphal East District Police in connection with the incident in which one woman was found dead at Keibi Heikakmapal Maning Ching on Saturday. Two arms, five ammunitions and one car were seized in connection with the case, the control room said.

In the search operation conducted by the District Police Thoubal on Saturday in the Heirok area, 12 magazines and 25 ammunition were recovered.

A total of 124 checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and police had detained 586 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

Movement of essential items is ensured along NH-37 and NH-2. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, the police said.

An appeal is made to the general public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state, to clarify any rumour by dialling rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room, and to return and deposit arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately, the control room stated.
