Government Higher Secondary School lecturers on Thursday took out a protest rally in front of the chief minister's bungalow demanding authorities to swiftly clear 13 months back-pay of 603 government lecturers.

The protestors later on staged a sit-in in front of Nupi Lal Memorial complex and Education (S) office in Lamphel demanding the same.

Representatives tried to meet the chief minister and the director of education but were denied.

The protestors held several placards decrying the government's step-motherly treatment of government teachers and utter disregard in resolving their pay issue.

"The 13 months back-pay has seriously impeded the lives of the teachers. We also have families who depend on us," she said.

She maintained that the authorities were treating the government teachers whimsically and completely neglecting their grievances.

As such, she cautioned that the teachers would continue to take out more intense agitations if the demands were not fulfilled swiftly.
