The office of Directorate of Education (s) and its main gate were shut and closed down by putting a lock on Wednesday, in continuation of the agitation carried out by 603 lecturers after demonstrating protest inside RMSA campus, Babupara over the demand to clear the pending salaries of 13 months.

The 603 lecturers were recruited in 2018 and were regularised by the present government in 2022. After the government issued the regularisation order for 603 lecturers, they have been facing issues for 13 months pending salary though they are fully utilised in various government activities.

The lecturers in the morning met Commissioner Gyan Prakash at his office chamber to discuss the issue of 13 months pending salaries and to provide a posting for each teacher. As the meeting failed to reach a positive outcome the lecturers locked down the office and campus of Directorate of Education (S) located at Lamphel, Imphal West on the same evening.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest at Directorate of Education (S), a protester told the media that the lecturers have been working tirelessly with full dedication. With the contribution of the dedicated lecturers, many students from government higher secondary schools bagged the highest marks in many subjects.

Due to the contribution and dedication from these lecturers, the government higher secondary schools are able to top the class XII examination and other common examinations, she said. The teachers are providing full efforts to develop the government schools. On the contrary, the teachers are not given anything in return, she added.
