Manipur: Dry day imposed during last 48 hours

Restriction of sale of liquor and other substances to be implemented on the day of counting i.e. June 4.

A strict prohibition of sale of liquor and other substances within the polling areas in Imphal West, Manipur from 4 pm of April 17 has been imposed till the completion of polling the free and fair conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

This restriction of sale of liquor and other substances shall also be implemented on the day of counting i.e. June 4, as per an order issued by district electoral officer Imphal West Th Kirankumar on Sunday.

It stated that the restriction is imposed in view of statutory provision as given in the Section 135C of Representation of Peoples Act 1951 and as per schedule of polling hours fixed by the Election Commission of India.

As per Section 135C of Representation of Peoples Act 1951, no spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances like nature shall be sold, given, or distribution at a hotel, eating house, tavern shop or any other places, public or private, within a polling area during the period of last 48 (forty- eight) hours ending with the hour fixed for the conclusion of the poll for any election in that polling area, it mentioned.

The Election Commission of India has fixed the polling hours from 7 am to 4 pm of the Poll day, April 19, 2024 for No. 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency for ensuing 18th General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024, it added.
