A team of Senapati police on Saturday seized 4.046 kg of opium near Khongnem Thana in Senapati district and arrested a person in connection with the drugs seizure along the National Highway-2.
The arrested person has been identified as one Mangkhokam Misao, 29, son of Vumpao Misao of Phaipijang village, Dimapur Sadar, Nagaland. He was arrested during frisking and checking along the NH-2 under War on Drugs 2.0.
Police reported that a team of Senapati district police, led by sub-inspector H Talu Marcus, conducted mobile frisking and checking near Khongnem Thana along NH-2 at around 7 am.
During the police action, one four-wheeler (Hyundai Venue) bearing registration number NL07CA-2459 was signalled to stop. On checking the vehicle, four packets of suspected opium packed in transparent plastic polythene were found concealed under the seat of the car.
The DC of Senapati was intimated and a request was made to depute one Executive Magistrate and accordingly, SDO/SDM, Senapati, S Lunguiba Thangal (Executive Magistrate) was deputed for conducting the necessary procedures.
On arrival of the executive magistrate and in his presence, the driver, Mangkhokam Misao, took out four packets of suspected opium packed in transparent plastic polythene which were concealed under the seat of the car.
The four packets were weighed by using a weighing machine in the presence of the executive magistrate and the detained person. Each package weighed 1.012 kg, 1.012 kg, 1.011 kg, 1.011 kg totalling to 4.046 kg, including the weight of plastic polythene.
The detained individual and seized items were handed over to Senapati police station for further investigation. A regular FIR case under FIR No 21(7) 2023 SPT-PS u/s 21(C)/60(3) NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation, police said.
