Thousands throng the streets across Imphal in a rally organised under the banner of Coordinating Committee of Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) denouncing narco-terrorism in the state even as the famous slogan “Manipur gi Ngamkhei Kaiba Yaroi” (Manipur’s territorial integrity should be intact) echoed on Saturday.

The rally saw thousands from various places taking part in it.

The rally began from Thau Ground in Thangmeiband and took to Nagamapal Road, Wahengbam Leikai crossing and after continuing towards Keishamthong Bridge through Keishampat Junction, the rally ended at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound after crossing Old Thumbuthong Bridge.

As the rally passed through various localities, people from the places joined in.

The protesters held various placards that read, “No separate administration in Manipur”, “Save India from Kuki-Zo Narco Terrorist”, “Abolish Narco-terrorism”, “No more atrocities to women”, “Update NRC immediately” and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar questioned the hidden agenda for deploying thousands of central forces in the state in connection with the present crisis stating that the crisis has affected many people.

The people have lost trust in both the central and state governments, he said, adding that the only solution for the crisis is to convene an emergency assembly session to discuss the issue. Those MLAs who failed to attend the session should be disqualified from their membership of the assembly, he said.

Co-convenor of COCOMI, Jeetendra Ningomba, said it is necessary to find out who is the enemy of Manipur. COCOMI has been continuously raising voice for the people of Manipur on different issues, he added.

He said, the time has come for political war so that narco-terrorism can be abolished completely from the state of Manipur.

The meeting held at Hapta Kangjeibung resolved 5 charter of demands which included – to completely abolished narco-terrorism from Manipur; a firm stand against separate administration; immediate implementation of NRC in Manipur; public to decide what steps to be taken against the 50 MLAs if they fail to convene special assembly session by August 5 and to submit a memorandum of the 5 charter of demands to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
