Kangpokpi district hospital facing shortage of manpower, infrastructures

Of the total 14 staff nurses sanctioned posts, only four staff nurses are posted at present creating immense difficulties for the staff and administration.

Shortage of manpower and infrastructures at Kangpokpi district hospital were highlighted during the handing and taking over of PSA Oxygen Generator Plant cum inauguration of ICU Ward and Waiting area of the hospital on Tuesday.

The handing and taking over of a PSA Oxygen Generator Plant cum inauguration of the ICU Ward and Waiting area of the hospital was held at Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi conference hall.

The event saw the attendance of caretaker chairman, ADC Sadar Hills Haokholal Hangshing; CEO-SHADC, Kangpokpi James Doujapao Haokip; CMO Kangpokpi Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip and medical superintendent, district Hospital Kangpokpi Dr Paotinlal Haokip.

ADC Sadar Hills caretaker chairman Haokholal Hangshing cut the ribbon to mark the inaugural after James Doujapao Haokip handed over the documents related to the Oxygen Plant to CMO Kangpokpi.

At the event, Dr Paotinlal Haokip said that despite the Community Health Centre Kangpokpi  being upgraded to the status of District Hospital, the MGEL Posts still remained in CHC status.

He highlighted that of the total 14 staff nurses sanctioned posts, only four staff nurses are posted at present creating immense difficulties for the staff and administration.

He further said that of two drivers sanctioned, only one is posted and it has become very difficult for one driver to cover 24x7 duties.

While conveying that the higher authority of the state had been informed of the shortage of manpower and infrastructures, Dr Paotinlal envisaged that positive action would be taken by the higher authority very soon.

President Kangpokpi Youth Union Haolet Kipgen, appealed to the higher authority concerned regarding the urgent need to fill up the vacant post of drivers, Grade-IV, and staff nurses of the district hospital Kangpokpi and other vacant posts to avoid issues which raise frequently due to the limitation.

Haokholal Hangshing appreciated the district health department for their efforts, especially during the pandemic COVID-19 to save human lives.

He said that the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi had been extending all possible help to the Health department during normal times and even during the pandemic COVID-19. “We had earlier handed over two Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances, one Advance Life Saving (ALS) ambulance, and one Bolero ambulance to the CMO Kangpokpi,” he said.

The Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi will continue to extend all possible assistance to the health department in the future as well, he added.

Haokholal advocated the importance of maintaining strict discipline by the health workers and staff and rendered their service with love and dedication to any persons visiting the hospital for treatment and other medical-related issues.

James Doujapao also hailed the services of the medical staff and officials of the district health department to the public despite limitations in manpower and infrastructures.

Dr Lamkhoneng Haokip said that all the equipment in the newly inaugurated ICU Ward at the district hospital was donated by the 10-bedded ICU Project, an NGO initiative in collaboration with the state government but the room renovation of the ICU Ward and installation of bedside oxygen pipeline was possible with the help of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi.

The CMO also expressed sincere thanks to the ADC Sadar Hills Caretaker Chairman and CEO-SHADC Kangpokpi for their tireless support of the health department.

The event attended by representatives of Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kangpokpi Youth Union also conveyed their serious concern over the acute shortage of manpower and infrastructures at the district hospital and appealed to the authority concerned to take immediate favourable action.
