Two houses illegally constructed at Thoubal district revenue village number- 114 under the SDO Thoubal revenue have been demolished on Tuesday as a part of the ongoing eviction drive.
SDO Thoubal Mayengbam Ranjeeta along with her staff carried out the demolition of these illegal housings using 2 JCB with the help of Thoubal district Police.
The eviction drive was an initiative taken up by CM N Biren Singh to take back state lands from illegal encroachment. The houses belonged to one Paolum Vaiphei, son of late Khup Konei, and Jangneilum Vaiphei, son of late Nekha from Phouoibi village near Ningel in Thoubal district.
The SDO took the initiative to carry out the demolition only after the non-compliances of the said illegal house owners to dismantle the houses by 9.30 am of September 27 in a notice earlier issued by the state government on September 22.
Thoubal district Police, additional SP (law and order) Th Sangkar Dev and additional SP (ops) O Wangkhomba leading a large number of security forces, arrived at the spot around 8 am on Tuesday morning to start the eviction. The officials faced some resistance from the locals; however, they were convinced by stating that it was the state's order to evict houses built on encroached lands, and the demolition drive was carried out peacefully.
SDO, Thoubal Mayengbam Ranjeeta told the media that the drive was carried out under the supervision of deputy commissioner Thoubal Ahanthem Subash, following the orders issued by the state government.
Anyone living under or constructing houses illegally by encroaching state lands should dismantle the constructions themselves before the state takes action, she said.
