Doctors Day: RIMS director calls for improving patient-doctor relationship

Dr Santa pointed out that RIMS is among the top medical institutes of the country and is dedicated to delivering world class healthcare facilities to the people.

Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), professor A Santa has called upon all concerned to strengthen the patient-doctor relationship in the effort to ensure a conducive hospital atmosphere where both medical practitioners and patients are treated with respect. 

Dr A Santa was speaking during the Doctor's Day celebration at RIMS General OPD Complex on Friday. He exhorted the doctors and medical practitioners to treat patients with care, respect and compassion. "The irreducible core value of a doctor is that he or she cares for the wellbeing of the patients".

The RIMS director also urged the people not to mistreat the doctors who are working to ensure care and safety of patients and not to vandalise hospital properties when misunderstanding or dispute arises.

He maintained that Doctor’s Day is celebrated in acknowledgements of the sacrifices and contributions of doctors in the society as well as to improve and strengthen doctor-patient relationship. 

Dr Santa pointed out that RIMS is among the top medical institutes of the country and is dedicated to delivering world class healthcare facilities to the people. 

Highlighting the upcoming infrastructural developments of the hospital, he said that RIMS is among the 12 medical institutions identified by the centre for setting up of a critical care block.

With the critical care block likely to be materialised in the near future, RIMS will be equipped with advanced machines and technologies for different kinds of diagnosis and treatment, he said.   

Retired medical practitioners and doctors, nurses, sanitation workers and security personnel among others were feted in honour of their service during the occasion. 

RIMS medical superintendent, professor N Sanjib; assistant medical superintendent Dr Y Arunkumar; dean academic professor Brogen Akoijam, doctor, nurses and staff of the Hospital took part in the event.
