The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is all prepared for the presidential election of the Indian National Congress (INC) to be held on October 17 wherein 54 voters from the state will take part.
Addressing the media at the Congress Bhawan on Sunday, assistant Pradesh returning officer in-charge Manipur of All India Congress Committee, Iftkhar Ahmed said that preparation for presidential election for the INC to be held on October 17 is almost completed in the state of Manipur. The election is contested by two candidates namely, Malik Arjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor and voting would be held from 10 am to 4 pm.
He further said that there are 60 constituencies in Manipur, however, 54 voters would take part in the voting as some members of Congress Committee had left their membership in between the process of membership drive.
The election would be held in a fair manner, he added, while asserting that Congress is the only party maintaining the internal democracy. No other national party conducts such a kind of presidential election like the Congress party, he said.
He further informed that after the election, the voting machine would be packed and sent to Delhi. The results of the election would be declared on October 19. Those who have voting rights should carry their identity card issued by the Central Election Authority.
He recalled that maintaining internal democracy is key to the Congress party. As such the party is putting all effort to carry out the election in a very transparent manner, he said.
The party had started preparation for the election from last one year. As a part of the election procedure, members of AICC had earlier visited Manipur for launching a membership drive and for formation of a block committee, he added.
