Joint director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur T Brajakumar as chief guest of the function said Ukhrul has been a resourceful place in Manipur. “Providing nutritious foods, good quality air, water and a good environment are needed while grooming a child but we have neglected them,” he said.

He said people can now witness a huge difference in weather and climatic conditions in Ukhrul, compared to what it used to be in the past 20 years. However, the people are still hardly not taking any steps to safeguard the climatic condition in the state, he mentioned. A solution must be hammered out, he added.

The climatic condition in the state has been degrading as most of the people are still utilizing plastic and other items for their own benefit and such practices are the main causes of pollution that further leads to climate change, said Brajakumar.

The constant increase in pollution level and release of toxic gasses in the atmosphere from the degraded pollutants are increasing the heat during summer, he said. With the depletion of ozone layer due to the increase of pollution level in the atmosphere, the rate of cancer patients and other diseases are increasing as well, Brajakumar added.

Panshi Shaiza of Village Authority Ukhrul , Senior Member Activist, Artax A Shimrey; Chairman of Tangrei, Thotngashing Chipheng; Chairperson of Tangrei Women, Veronica Zingthai and others were present during the programme.
