The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM) on Saturday reiterated its decision to impose 12-hour total shutdown in all hill districts of Manipur on April 24 in protest against the failure of authorities in RIMS recruitment process.
ATSUM stated in a release that the total shutdown will be imposed from 6 am to 6 pm of April 24, as decided in the joint meeting of ATSUM, subordinate bodies and federating units on April 17.
The union demanded befitting action against erring RIMS authorities in the staff recruitment process and implementation of the April 3 agreement signed between RIMS, ATSUM and the state government.
“As the tripartite agreement was violated, we are compelled to resume our strike from April 24 by imposing a 12-hour total shutdown in all the hill districts from 6 am to 6 pm,” said ATSUM publicity secretary Khaiminlen Doungel while speaking to the media at its office in Imphal on April 18.
The Union, however, stated thta emergency services will be exempted from the purview of the total shutdown.
ATSUM appealed to the public to extend cooperationand support to its demand for "prevalence of the rule of law in RIMS".
